Although temperatures are still going up and down in Southern Ontario, spring has definitely arrived! In addition to birds singing and looking for a place to nest, grass turning green, and budding trees, I have spotted the first bloom in my backyard, a prodigious yellow daffodil (pictured above). A small forsythia bush is also blooming (photo below), a seminal sign to start sowing cool-weather crops outdoors, such as carrots, lettuce and radishes, and transplant some of the sturdiest seedlings from indoors (more on that in my next post).

Welcome spring! Happy gardening!

Happy spring gardening to you, Irene. We are expecting our first frost next Saturday.

Thank you, Tracy, I am so looking forward to it!
Wow, frost already! Is that average or early this year for your area?

It seems a bit early to me, Irene. I think that is because the onset of frosts has been getting later and later over the last 20 years.
