A brief Story of How my Blog Started:
Growing up in Mexico, my friends and teachers frequently asked me about my Japanese background, so I got used to ask my parents if some particular food, word or tradition was Japanese, Mexican, or a blend. When I came to Canada as a young grown-up, I found myself talking again about food, words and traditions, but the questions had mostly turned to Mexico, my country of origin. I knew some answers, but sometimes it was hard to put them into context or, shamefully, there were many I simply did not know. That motivated me to find meaningful answers to those questions, and what started as brushing up on colloquial Spanish, Mexican history and its food, became a new experience, and stuff I learned in school or took for granted, acquired a new dimension. Throughout the years, I have shared these findings with friends, teachers, colleagues, and even curious strangers, so as a 2018 New Year’s resolution, I decided to start documenting them in a blog, and broadly share My Slice of Mexico.
Two pieces of advice for new bloggers:
1.- Unless it is an opinion piece, do a fact check before posting. The opportunity to share posts with others comes with the responsibility of providing something valuable, which cannot be achieved with faulty information.
2.- Take advantage of the WordPress features and tutorials. Their recommended reads, suggestions and opportunities for pingbacks are great, and the tutorials are very helpful and user-friendly.
Other bloggers I want to give this award to:
I thought of nominating relatively new bloggers, since it is a recognition award. I really enjoy reading each of their posts.
2018: A Year of Sustainable Living – This is homesteading to the max, and the stories are down to earth and very entertaining. I also love the fact that they have their own avocado trees!
Talbakes – I respect a hardworking person in general, but a mother of three running a donut business by herself is simply amazing!
The Beautiful Wondering – I like the emphasis on family, and the settings are beautiful. I hope the posts continue even after the author goes back to work. Best wishes!
You have such an interesting background and I can now make the connection to your food!
