National Taco Day 2026 – Azteca Restaurant in Paris, France

Since I started my blog in 2018, I have shared a post related to tacos every October 4, marked as National Taco Day in the US and Canada.  Click on the highlighted year numbers to visit my Taco Day posts  from 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.

This year, I am sharing a few photos from a meal that my husband and shared at a Mexican restaurant, during our visit to Paris, France. The restaurant is called Azteca (Rue Sauval, 75001 Paris, France). It has a very convenient location, a couple of blocks from the Notre Dame cathedral, and on the way from there to the Basilic of Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre. The façade is not pretentious, but it has the vibe of a nice place to enjoy a Mexican meal:

The decor inside is clearly catering to non-Mexican clientele, with Mexican flags, an iconic charro hat and other stereotypical details, such as Latino faces sporting important mustaches:

The menu was very varied, with well-known Mexican appetizers, fajitas, and tacos, and also a few signature dishes, from different regions in Mexico. My husband and I ordered Hongos Rancheros, Fajitas de Pollo, and Tacos al Pastor:

Hongos Rancheros – sautéed mushrooms on a crisped blue corn tortilla, served on a bed of lettuce and tomatoes:

Fajitas de Pollo – Chicken strip stir-fry with peppers and onions, with all the traditional sides of refried beans, guacamole, rice and salad:

Tacos al Pastor – The emblematic shepherd’s tacos, served with black beans and rice:

The restaurant’s website tells a very romantic story of a French man opening this restaurant in the 1980s, as a promise to his Mexican fiancée that she would never miss her native country. I am not sure if the business still belongs to the same family, but the server told me that the owner is Mexican (although was referred as a “he”, so it cannot be the original man in the story.)

At any rate, the food was good, and the tacos al pastor (also pictured at the top of this post), provide a nice feature for this year’s National Taco Day.
