A Very Traditional Mexico City Holiday Menu

In Mexico, the month of December is full of celebrations; it starts on December 12 with the Feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe, followed by seven days of las posadas, literally, “The Inns”, celebrated from December 16 until Christmas Eve, which recreate the journey of the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph to Bethlehem, seeking a benign inn-keeper who would allow them to spend the night.  Christmas Eve usually features a late evening family meal, and Christmas Day, either a turkey lunch with all the glitter and trimmings, or simply a delicious meal of “recalentado” – reheated leftovers from the night before.  In Central Mexico, especially in Mexico City, el recalentado is always welcome because the dishes are mainly soups or stews, so the flavours keep maturing and developing.  The following is a good example of a traditional Mexico City Style Christmas Eve  Menu (click on highlighted titles for stories and recipes:

    1. ¡Feliz Navidad, Eilene!

Nice of you to notice! My daughters and I take turns choosing the theme of the tree; it is my older daughter ‘s turn, and she chose “Dark Academia” . The ornament near the top is a fluffy owl, and there are also clear orbs with samples of Flora and Fauna, lichen-like shapes, and the ribbon is supposed to be parchment, As my daughter described it “odd with just the right level of hideous ” 😂
